Review (pardeep)
The LaViSh LiFe....
****BLINGG BLING BLINGGGG!!!****
I know you’ve dreamt about it….Everyone wants it….. And you can have it…. but you do have to take the luggage that comes with it…. This mtv style documentary will entertain as well as educate you to why individuals have this obsession about ‘the lavish life’.
The lavish life is an exiting, entertaining and uplifting documentary on four girls who go out into the real world to find out why we spend so much money and why people are so obsessed with shopping and always wanting to look good in the contemporary fashion!
We have a money obsessed uni student called ‘Abi’that cares more about looking good than eating and also have interesting opinions from the people out there and what they think that causes us to shop a lot! So if you have a non stop addiction on spending money on clothes then this documentary wills definitely interest you and you can see how shopping addictions lead to other problems so we can definitely say that it’s not all “the lavish life”.
I think lavish life gives you the inside story to what can happen when you do get caught up in the ‘lavish life’ but we challenge the fact that people think it’s only the women who are bad, when you do watch the documentary you will be very shocked!!!!! Because it flips, turns, spins like madd and smacks you with the real deal!!!!!
Interesting facts
We had a vox pox that was really really good, and when we uploaded it we realised the mic weren’t turned on!!! Lol :p
Lol there’s one bre that finks he’s too bad, spending 300 pound a week in nike town unoe, finks he’s on it N THAAAA loll!!!
Challenging but fun I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

The Lavish Life review..SiMrAnXxX
Thursday, 10 May 2007
Within the planning stages of our practical production, we decided to assign everyone with equal roles with everyone having responsibility over all of the production processes such as research, filming, and editing. This was so we would all as a group be working together and be able to recognise each others strengths and weaknesses and apply this to the completion of our production. We had a few difficulties with people not being available for editing such as myself at the beginning stages but picked up on more editing sessions when it was coming towards the end and worked very hard to get it finished. I think everyone contributed well in the production as a whole even though more was contributed from others.
In the opening sequence of our documentary we chose to do a MTV style montage including extracts of the glamorising ‘D&G’ TV advert with edited shots of real life shopping from ordinary people on the high street with low angle shots of the mainstream retail outlets to give the impression that shopping is dominant over most of us. This is there to emphasises the growth of the women and men buying excessively and to introduce the problem arising with money in which we hope to investigate as the documentary progresses. We kept the original sound to the advert as it was up beat, grabbed the audience’s attention and fitted into out MTV style theme that we wanted to create. We also overlapped the title with the sequence at the end of it to reflect these images as being ‘The Lavish Life’ that we all aspire to today. We also used Vox Pops to ask other people what they think and to see how such things as the media have affected their spending habits. We mediated these Vox Pops and only selected scenes with people looking as if they ignorantly spend money without looking at the consequences which is the image we wanted to convey to the audience to not only reinforce our point but to relate to our target audience who are more than likely to be shopping in this way. We used a lot of fades throughout our production to construct a continuity effect which demonstrates the problem with over spending as a continuous social issue.
Our professional, who put across his view on the issue, further over looked this. We constructed the scene and paid close attention to detail as we sat him at a computer in an ‘office like’ room to flow his image as a professional where we then had his speech lead to the climax of the documentary where it all concluded to the blame of the media. This was a particularly well structured part of the documentary as it posed a question from the professional, then with the use of a montage to answer the question to create closure however there is a slight problem with the volume of the professionals voice as it seems to stay low and is overcome by the next montage scene and music, but we hope to get it solved before submission of the production.
Our documentary relies on the montages that we produced as the group thought that this was the most effective way to put our point across to our target audience. Our influence came from Module 2 when we were studying ‘Bowling For Columbine’ and ‘Man With A Movie Camera’ who both used these techniques to serve the same purpose. We merged a few of the different techniques together such as our main focus which was our university student with our montages of credit cards and receipts and placed a parallel sound with it to reflect the ’real life’. The song wasn’t conventional to appeal to our audience but different and sets the tone to the way we think today as a mellow non-thinking society. The university student was being perceived as a naïve and narrow minded student to emphasise the trap that we all fall into to think that we all have a back up plan (the credit card) but then are reassured that she is in trouble with her money and cannot manage it with all of her students debts on top of her overspending, this is a problem that a lot of students have which we wanted to make clear to the audience.
‘The Lavish Life’ will be shown on channel 4, a commercial channel, as they target to similar audiences as our target audience and also show programmes and documentaries that tackle these types of issues we have raised in our documentary. As we interviewed people of different ages and ethnicity’s it is clear there is a secondary audience where we are appealing not only to teenagers and students but everyday middleclass, working class, middle aged people as the problem occurs to many more others.
In conclusion ‘The Lavish Life’ serves its purpose to inform and educate as well as to entertain with the use of our MTV style fast paced editing shots. We posed many questions and answered them using different styles and techniques to conform to the documentary style we wanted to create. I think we were successful in the stereotypes and tones created by the soundtrack and the MTV style we prioritised to create.

Evaluation (pardeep)
Practical Production Evaluation: ‘The Lavish Life’
For my practical production, I worked in a group to produce the opening of a documentary called ‘The Lavish Life’. It’s a documentary based on how the media influences us to consume, and as we feel that teenagers are most influenced, we have decided to target them by making our documentary MTV style.
We deiced to take on equal responsibilities in the beginning but we hardly worked as a group, as Simran and I seemed to put in more time and effort into editing and we came up with most of the ideas. We also changed our original plan of showing how more males are being influenced as we felt that this was a weak ending for our primary audience which is mainly young females.
The opening to our documentary is a montage sequence which starts with the D&G time advert, which is interweaved with our own footage. Featuring high-angled long shots of crowds and using cuts to show close-up’s of shop names, the aim of the montage is not only to grab the audiences attention, but is to show the idealistic lifestyle. The fact that the montage is almost like a fast edited MTV music video, helps to reinforce our point on how the media puts forward this ideology of aspiring to a glamorous idealistic lifestyle, as promoted by the D&G advert. The advert itself contains young people, who seem to live the glamorous lifestyle which is conveyed via the mise-en-scene (party) and their costumes. This attracts our young audience as well as the non-diegetic parallel sound (‘dance floor’), which is very effective as it anchors the images and it gives the documentary a glamorous feel. Within the montage, various people are carrying shopping bags of Argo etc which puts forward the ideology that in order to obtain this flawless lifestyle, it is necessary to consume. The montage’s main purpose is to create enigmas for our audience as well as to give them a vague idea to what the documentary is about. Our title ‘The Lavish Life’ then appears after the montage.
Via a fade, we have chosen to introduce one of our vox pops. The vox pops show people of both genders and all ethnicities, yet their age is similar, allowing our young audience to identify with them. As vox pops are a typical convention of documentaries, we included them to also ensure that our documentary appears to be realistic. The answers seem very much repetitive, representing this age group to be very influenced by the media to remain young, hip and ‘cool’. Again this links to our audience as they are most likely to visit the same shops, hence they will feel that the documentary directly concerns them.
Our documentary follows Rabigers convention of including interesting characters as we’ve included a university student. In a sense, it can be said that the documentary conforms to props convention of hero/villain, as the student (Abi) is represented as naive with money while the media influencing her is represented as corrupt, as it’s the reason why she shops, resulting in her being in debt. This scene starts with Abi coming up the stairs and apologizing to the camera for her lateness (as she went shopping), which instantly creates the impression that she’s a shopaholic which is reinforced by the shopping bags in her hands. Abi is represented as young, easily influenced typical university student who conforms to the stereotype of girls, as she’s shown to be a shopaholic and a bit careless with money. She is a character our audience can identify with, especially girls and university students.
This part of the documentary appears to be more realistic due to the mise-en-scene, which is her room, and also due to the fact that she acknowledges the camera’s presence by talking directly into it. Her entrance gives the impression that this footage is unedited, and it’s almost like an observational mode. Again, this is MTV style, so it keeps the audience entertained.
However, Abi’s voice is slowly drowned out, which represents her as someone who talks a lot. Instead it’s replaced with parallel music (‘six days’) and as the tempo changes of the music, so does the shots. By including shots of receipts, via close-up’s and long shots, it reinforces just how much Abi consumes. Also, a short montage of designer labels such as Gucci and Versace and crowds are placed next to each other, this allows an active audience to make correlations, as it suggest that this is what we all want, and aspire to. Nowadays, the media shows how class is defined by culture, so by obtaining designer clothes and by showing these labels, the documentary hints that we all buy certain things to attain a higher status in society, hence the documentary targets people who want to achieve high status and want the ‘ideal’ lifestyle.
The documentary goes on to show statistics about credit cards via a voiceover and then a professional. The final montage starts by the word media appearing everywhere suggesting that we are being attacked by the media and that it is inescapable, which is ironic as it’s meant to help people to escape from their lives.
The opening montage and the university student sequence is the biggest strength of our production as every little detail has been taken into account to prefect it. We feel that the university student forms the base for our main point whereas the opening montage is the first thing that the audiences see, hence it’s probably the most important in grabbing their attention. However, the university student scene can also be seen as a weakness as Abi conforms to the stereotypical view of young females and of young people as a whole. As her character is very careless with money, it may make the documentary seem unrealistic as not everyone is like this. Nevertheless, we have used this to our advantage as her character shocks the audience, which helps to stress our point.
In conclusion, although the documentary is about how the media influences us to consume, like Moore’s ‘Bowling For Columbine’ it raises other issues such as the sort of society we live in and the lifestyle we all want. In a way, it hints that banks are partly to blame yet this is done covertly, which manipulates the audience without actually stating this. ‘The Lavish Life’ is meant to entertain and inform a young audience and I think it does fulfill its purpose.

The beginning of our production we have a catchy montage sequence which has been indented with The D and G advert (Time) we have included things like crowds and other brand names to show that this production is about the Shopping and that it’s made for the people who spend a lot.
Then it switches to a dip to black then goes to a still screen with the question “what shops do you go to?” Then it goes straight into vox pops answering the following question it’s about 45 secs worth of shops that are being named. We then have a shot of Next we move on to a uni student from queen Mary’s called Abi she is the main protagonist in the documentary as she plays the ‘shopaholic’ which shows the audience that it can get very serious to getting carried out with spending a lot of money and it could lead to debt she was very good and then it slowly fades out into Tokyo drift music in order to portray that she is going on and on and on. Then it goes into a slow close up shot of Abi then as the music gets faster we have a mini montage of receipts, crowds and different shopping materials which are goes with the music very well. This shows the audience the other side to shopping and that it’s not all glamorous then it has Karina’s voiceover and she talks about the statistics of the debts and challenging the debt issues.
We have clips of the “Gone” video by Nsync we thought it would be a good idea in order to put this in the documentary as it shows them all happy in the begging when they are dancing we thought it would portray the same way in which money can influence the mood of the person and this was shown through the video and it had contrapuntal sound of “Stars in there eyes” which went very well with the video clip.
Then we go onto the next vox pox which is shown the same way like the before slide but has a different question which is “how much do you spend on average?” then it follows by the answering vox pox we then have the next question which is “Does the media influence you to shop?” then is followed by the answering vox pox we then have a shot of crowds and then goes into the last montage sequence which is in conjunction with a D and G fashion show which we thought it was a good idea to put it there as it goes with the brand influences and the fact that people by these kind of brands and they are not cheap they are the well known and high class fashion.
Then we go onto the last scene which fades out onto a blank screen which the music is carried on which is the Madonna- erotica live which is very dance and it’s retro and the fact that it’s parrarel to the montage sequence we have chosen so it goes well with all the fashion show and crowds that we have included.
As we have studied documentary in module two, we thought it would be a good idea in creating this documentary as all of us are girls and we know the temptation of shopping is like the must have for this summer and the latest fashion trends for winter, theses type of things are all media influence in consumerism as we are talked into buying and spending lots of money that the media are putting across.
We have done a fair amount of research that would help with our documentary such as gathering all media types of advertisements that are broadcasted throughout the world. The TV media have the Gap advert which have popular music artists like Missy Elliot and Madonna as this will then sell the product like hot cakes as the consumers (audience) will be in grossed to watching it and whatever the product is they would still get it even of they don’t like it so this will have a great effect on sales as they are only buying the product because of the Popular artist in the advert.
Our documentary will reinforce the girls and boys of all ages and gender who get media influenced into consumerism. This would be shown as a convectional documentary as it uses all the techniques and skills to make our documentary the best. There is going to be influences of the bowling for columbine documentary as we are going to reach our resolution at the end. The solution that we will be answering is ‘How the media influences consumerism’ as this is a general question we as four girls can get involved as it’s quite personal and we have a great impact on the targeted audience.
We have chosen to have the documentary on Channel Four as they are always encouraging parents and teenagers what is right and what is wrong and also after each of the shows and documentaries that are show they also have a help line at the end to base the shows on real life so they can get they people who have the same problems and help them throughout it and guide them too. The documentary is to entertain as well as educate the everyday issues of the consumerisms as our target audience is teenagers to 50 as is not just a documentary for jus a specific audience as it will engage as well as persuade them too.
As for the members in our group including me I felt that myself and karina were not putting in much effort in the earlier days of the production and also felt that when we did attend the media suites we were baffled because we did not know on what we were doing so I took a step forward and got involved as much as I could because at the end of the day I was apart of that production too. Even though I was not completely isolated from the group as I was doing more of the research and doing things on the blog and making sure it was up to date and also making it look good.

3- My attainment has no been all that this past few weeks I think it’s because I have so much going on a neglecting media but I am going to give 1st priority to Media because I want to achieve and get the best results.
3- My effort in media this term has not been my full potential I say this because I feel I have been neglecting it too much and that is not right as I want to achieve my targets that I have targeted
1-My punctuality to lessons have not been a problem I am always there and always on time.
2- My submission and quality of work that I hand in is not the best because I feel that I don’t spend enough time on the task but I try to. My submission of my homework has been good but not excellent
1-I can work independently as this encourages me to achieve the results on my own and even if I do mistakes I no that I am doing bad on my terms and not somebody else’s but I enjoy working independently.
1-my quality of writing has improved because I feel more confident in writing in media terms better than before because you learn it as you go along.
1-my media folder is good and very organised!
1-I feel that I could contribute a lot more in class as I feel that I get abit shy and think I may say the wrong thing but I guess I have to get over tha lol.
3-Coursework is looking good I could get involved more it’s just that other subjects are getting more prioritised than media but that has to change in order for me to pass this year. Sorry sir!

ok so far we have sorted out the montage- i think it looks really good and although we have spent alot of time doing this, the montage is the most important thing and its important we get it right. We've made a start on the vox pops and our uni student scene, i think we should be able to get it all done by the end of this week which is important as the following week we just want to add the final touches to our documentary. I hope everything goes according to plan and no matter what we all need to be really focused because even though we've done alot, i still feel that we have alot to do, which should be all done this week. So far this week, we've hardly had any group meetings at all. I've mostly just done some independent work-as we changed the storyboard, I've planned the opening again and come up with a few back up plans just in case it doesn't work- as the montage sequence maybe too complex to do. This week, I mainly focused on what will be used. Things I have achieved this week:

On Friday, I went to Harrow and decided to do some filming. This was difficult as there were security people everywhere but i still managed to get some useful footage. I was aiming to get:
I think i managed to get all these things and although at points the footage is shaky, there are some useful bits which can be put in our doc. As it was a Friday, it was quite crowded so overall, it went well :) |
test screening
1.
For this first section, go through all your test screening feedback sheets and come up with an average grade for each aspect of MCCAT (the assessment objectives; what will ultimately determine your grade) based on these returns...
Media Language=B
Conventions= B
Creativity= B
Attention to Detail= B
Technical Proficiency= C
2.
Then make a list of all the positive comments you received on your forms, ideally breaking them down into the different areas the class were asked to concentrate on...
(cinematography?) GOOD HIGH ANGLE SHOTS
(mise en scene?) GOOD LOCATION-BUSY
(lighting?) NATURAL-REALISTIC
(sound?) NO SOUND
(conventions? matching audience?) TARGETS AUDIENCE WELL
3.
Next, focus on any constructive criticism you received in the feedback, under the same headings as for the previous section...
(cinematography?) SHOTS TOO SHAKY-USE TRIPOD
(mise en scene?) THINGS IN THE WAY OF SHOTS
(lighting?) NOTHING
(sound?) ADD SOUND
(conventions? matching audience?) NOTHING
4.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, write up the suggestions and ideas about how to improve and what else could be added...
What else would you (or the target audience) like to see in this production? (scenes? sequences?) VOX POPS AND STEADY SHOTS
Suggestions for post-production/editing (music? voiceover? cutaways? montage? cross cutting? titles? slo-mo?)USE VAREITY OF MUSIC-TRY 'FISH GO DEEP'

Progress Report (pardeep)
Last week
Half Term during half term, we plan to just get as much footage and to film more crowds. We will go bond street again and any other shopping place to get more vox pops. We also need to get our professional and if we are unable to get one by thie half term, as soon as we get back to school, we will use a teacher. |
Wednesday's wrk (pardeep)
Me and Simran went to East London to Queen Mary’s and filmed our uni student. I think it went better than expected as the uni student is a really good actress. We filmed in her room- which is appropriate as it makes it realistic. Also, she shows all her clothes and generally just talks about her loan and credit card. She portrays herself as carefree and as someone who doesn’t think about the consequences. This was the main part of our documentary, and we were having difficulties arranging the time so I’m really glad we went and got it over and done with. Also, we did another vox pop- but the sound didn’t come so that was sort of useless but after Simran left I found another uni student who did a very detailed interview and we considered every aspect- for example we stuck a poster of who she views as a role model and this helped to put our point across. |
Thursday's wrk (pardeep)
Me and Simran went to Uxbridge to get some vox pops done and to film some crowds etc. Unfortunately, we found out that we are not allowed to film inside shopping centres without permission and even though we went to their office thing, we were told that we are not allowed, so this proved to be a problem as our doc is on shopping and we need to use shopping centres. On the bright side, we did get some vox pops done which we will probably use as they are really good and useful. |

1. What do you think of our blog?
What do you particularly like about it? What's especially impressive?
What could be improved? What's missing or could be added?
2. Based on what you've read on the blog (and maybe seen in test screenings in class) what suggestions do you have regarding what we could do to make our Practical Production really successful?
What other things could we include in the production?
How should we go about filming any remaining scenes or editing the footage during post-production (+ suggestions for music, etc.)?

Outline of the following week (Pardeep)
We are plannig to:
we also need to get permission to film inside a shop Hopfully all will go well |
Progress Report (Pardeep)
So far, I have analysed 3 texts as part of my research. The text that I’ve looked at are:
- Lost In A Reflection
- Bowling For Columbine
- A Consumer Society
I’ve also looked at the D&G time advert as we will be using it in our documentary along with the Gap advert (which I still need to post up).
As a Group we have:
- arranged a time to meet our uni student
- we’ve had meeting to discuss our documentary and to pull our ideas together
- we’ve managed to get our storyboard together (which needs to be posted up) but it isn’t still completed
- on the 30th- me, Simi and Kareina went Hounslow to check out what we can use
- on the 3rd- all 4 of us went central and got some filming done
So far, i think we've made alot of progress and we 've also planned out what we are doing the week that's coming up :)
3rd feb...(SiMrAn)
Our first filmin session went reali good...we had t fit it around 2 of the group memebers (me n dips) being at work...so dips was der in da mornin n i came in da afternoon..!! the footage that pardi n karina got was realli good..cuz they filmed from a window..and got a high angle shot of crowds of people..suprsingly one of the biggest let downs was dat CENTRAL wasnt very bizzii 4 some reason...n da fact that we wernt able to film inside shops..however the footage that we did get was good...bcuz it will b used in our montage sequences...!!!
Mondaiii..
after school the whole group are going to ealing..this is to again film crowds bcuz ealing is full of students (ealing college) and also its always bizzi cuz of ealing broadway staion...!! this is when we hope to get atleast 3 vox pops 4 our docu...this will b the main focus 4 the evening..aswel as extra footage!!!
Thurssdaii..
after school...again the whole group will go to brent cross/kingston...(btw quick note to group-im reali sowii cld we change dis t kingston i was thinkin of a kingston not brent cross bit of a mix up...cuz kingstons soooo much bigger n we can get so many high n low angle shots from der) this will give us a chance to mess around with shots figuring which wld go best wiv our approach to our docu...we want females to look vulnearable so mayb interviewin felames from a specific shot will potray our view better...
Fri...
we will still b focusin on our vox pops...as we r not certain if the 1s we take will b used..so we need a few (8-10) so we can choose da best 1s...we will b going to uxbrde...to hopefulli get the last bits of our footage..again dis is a good spot t film at cuz of da college...!!
Sat...
we will be going to east london as a group...to film our main character in her uni environment...this has alreadi been discused wiv da student...after this is done..more of the filming will b finished...this bit is very important...so in thusrdaiis lesson../fri we will plan exaclty how we want the female to look..or in wt way we want t portray her..we want the whole sequence to look as natrual as possible...so questions asked wont b too structured..

we successfully managed to get our crowds from different angles, especially high angles looking down and we got many shop names.

D&G (Pardeep)
For our montage sequence, either the one in the beginning or the end, I think we should use this advert as its very influencing- Simi and Dipz said they want to buy it which proves my point:) I think this advert proves our point because it doesn’t just promote and persuade us to buy the watch, in a sense it promotes this glamorous lifestyle and in order to obtain this desirable lifestyle (which is almost as good as a celebrity‘s life) we NEED the watch.
In our documentary, we focus on how the media influences us to consume, so this advert is useful. Despite the fact that it is unrealistic and the perfect lifestyle portrayed is unachievable, we as the audience cant help but get sucked up into the idea of getting this perfect flawless fun life.
Things that make it effective:
- its almost like a music video
- fact that people are climbing out of the frames
- females/males within the advert act as a sex object
- it all kinda flashes-like a pulse
- the split screen- can't explain what i mean but still..
- Also the music is parallel is completely appropriate-sounds wicked!!

Consumer Society (Pardeep)
|
The text is a documentary named 'The Consumer Society' produced by media students (don't no where from though) and I think the target audience is the same as ours- females mainly- as most commercial target them more, yet also a male audience. The age group is about 16 onwards. This can be seen via the type of adverts used (e.g. the shampoo advert, the drink advert) and although it features a advert for children, I doubt its targeting kids as they don't understand the media and the issue being raised is beyond their understanding.
This documentary will probably be shown on the BBC,, as channel 4 is a commercial channel, therefore, it may feel threatened by this and so will the people who want their adverts appearing on channel 4. BBC doesn't advertise, so therefore it will most likely appear on that channel. As this documentary challenges people, the audience it's trying to attract usually watch TV from 8:00 onward- as this is when they come back form work of school etc. Therefore, it will be shown about 9ish.
‘The Consumer Society’ uses fade outs to move from one advert to another and it uses a variety of adverts- from hair shampoo to drinks to chocolate or whatever. It mainly just uses a lot of archive footage and it uses captions to pose questions. A montage is used (cuts are used) to summarise the point at the end and this helps to pull together what the filmmakers are trying to point out. This is then further reinforced by the question which appears on the screen: ‘Are you part of the consumer society?’ I think this is very effective as in a sense it forces the audience to think and become less passive.
The sound used in the beginning is rock, which can be seen as parallel, as it helps to reflect society’s attitude toward consumerism, (how everyone is crazily consuming without pausing to think about the consequences). This is used in the beginning and in the end. The rest of the music comes from the adverts.
Personally, I don’t think this documentary was that good, as it only uses archive footage and misses out on sooooooo much like: interviews, vox pops, a proper montage etc, (i think that our documentary is gonna be sooooo much better:)
However, we will borrow the idea of posing a serious question to make the audience think and question themselves.

TOdAi (30th jan)
Today's Work-30th (pardeep)
Today me, Simran and Kareina went to check out the places we are considering to feature in our documentary. It went very well, as we finalised details on our storyboard and have planned the opening scene to the smallest detail. We have a general idea on what we want in the rest of the documentary but we have not planned details yet. Also, we’ve decided today that the main character- the uni student- we would like her to just act natural and real rather than act out to be something she is not (as for example, in Bullicide- although the documentary was very good, at times the main character was being unrealistic and over-dramatic), and we want our documentary to be as realistic as possible. The editing we do will help convey our point and we will construct it to portray her the way we want.
We also decided today that out title ’The Lavish Life’ is not appropriate for our documentary as it seems a bit dull :( and we want a more snappier title, so therefore we will be changing it as soon as someone comes up with something :)

Bowling For Columbine (Pardeep)
The text is a successful documentary- 'Bowling For Columbine' produced by Michael Moore (USA,2002) and although it is about the 2 students who went on a killing spree, it also tackles with issues such as gun crime, the media and how it creates fear resulting in more consumerism, racism and much more. It’s target audience is anyone who is anti- Bush and it also targets people who are generally more left wing (liberal view). This can be seen as Moore promotes his left wing views and also criticise Bush.

soo far...
targets as a group:
1) 4 every1 to attend atleast 1 meeting a week ...
2) post progress or any info on da production..problems wa eva it is...on da regs
3) inform all group memebrs on changes that would like to be made...etc
in the following week we all need to sit down as a whole group and discuss when are where filming will take place...if u miss filming ul b MISSING OUT (BIG TIME) so try n forget bout outside stuff n focus 4 jus 2 weeks... (",) also start keeping track of every lil detail made...
note to all KEEP INDIVIDUAL LOGS...of all work completed cuz den we kno hu's workin n hu's not...also we'l kno if changes need to b made etc...
tke cre all...xXxSiMrAnxXx
OuTLiNe On oUr dOcU...
by using all of the above techniques and more we will ensure we have covered the docu conventions and also reach our aim of answering our question. we will be challenging the media...also using a female protagonist to capture life in debt at a young age (we have alreadi spoken to someone who has agreed to take the part)...this will only be for 1 min or so...we will also show all the diff things that lead us up to over spending such as banks who provide the money...n debt..n big icons such as madona...david beckham etc...
we have researched other documentaries linking to ours...to see what kind of things they have used to portray thier docu in certain ways...this will help us when editing and chosing footage to use! by analysing other documentaries...we have chosen loadsa features n key elements...dta will b used to show our humourous side and serious side..
the serious side will show the effects of consumerism and leave our audeinces thinking...however the funny bits will clam and ease the situations we bring up...having both things will make our docu successful...

Research- Lost In A Reflection (Pardeep)
The text is a documentary produced by students in Greenford High and it is targeted at young females who are concerned about their image. This can be seen as it’s title ‘Lost In A Reflection’ is written in pink- a colour connoting femininity. Moreover, the main characters are female and the issue itself can be seen as a female issue. The documentary only shows females being obsessed with their image and the professionals shown often talk about how girls are concerned with their image. Moreover, the fact that the voiceover is a female also hints at the fact that the documentary has been produced to attract a female audience-particularly teenage girls-as the main characters are teenage girls- so the audience can identify with them.
The documentary can be shown on channel 4 at about 9:00 as at this time teenagers usually watch TV and channel 4 usually deals with serious issues.
The sound is very parallel and the editing done helps to sum up a point- for instance when the question is posed: ‘How do you define image obsession?’ cuts are used to help sum up what people in general think. This very effective as one answer links on to another- helping the documentary flow. Also, the types of shots used vary and are quite appropriate e.g. when Ruby is crying in the toilets, a close up shot is used to show emotion.
Some of the typical conventions it uses are:
- shaky hand held camera- which helps to create a sense of realism
- voiceover- which anchors the meaning of the mise en scene
- use of a professional- makes it support their point
- vox pops
The things which we will borrow for our documentary are:
- vox pops- and this can be done in shopping centres where we can ask people how much money they spend and what they buy etc.
- voiceover- this is essential for our documentary as it will help the audience understand what is happening and what our documentary is about.
- the use of a professional is very effective and we will include one in ours as although our documentary will entertain, we also want it to have a serious point to it so therefore, we will also include a help line at the end.
